Anonymous Gilt Clamshell Chronograph

This is an “anonymous” chronograph, which have grown in popularity immensely amongst collectors. Honestly, there’s not much we can tell you about this “anonymous” or “sterile” dial watch, because there’s not a lot we know. What we do know, is that during the hey-day decades of vintage chronographs (aka, the 1940s-1970s), many manufacturers sourced parts, cases, movements, dials, etc., from the same manufacturers, and many watchmakers were putting out watches with name and brand-less dials.

What makes this watch so special, however, is the use of the waterproof “clamshell” case, which is a case comprised of 3-different parts, and was pioneered by Gallet as their first waterproof chronograph. These cases were used sparingly, and are not easy to find.

This watch, housed in a large 36mm case, is in amazing condition. The gilt dial is absolutely beautiful, maintaining most of the original gloss. The gilt inlay shines very brightly. The case is unpolished.

This is a rare watch in absolutely mint condition, and a real stunner on the wrist.
