Omega “2915-1” Speedmaster

SOLD

Description

Up for grabs is an excellent example of the Reference 2915-1 Omega Speedmaster, which was the the very first Omega Speedmaster produced in 1957. The serial number (1.55xxxx) dates this example to 1958. The very first Speedmaster is powered by Omega’s famous caliber 321. This Speedmaster 2915-1 is the holy grail of Speedmaster collecting, and it has becoming almost impossible to find attractive examples.

The present example is in great vintage condition.  The case is unpolished, with normal wear, with the original factory edges still visible.  The dial is in great shape, showing only light wear/tool marks in the left register; under a loupe, extending through the end of “Speedmaster”, a glob of paint appears to have been applied on the dial – this can likely be removed (as it is not a scratch) at the buyer’s discretion. The dial is aging to a tropical brown color, and can be clearly seen whether indoors or outdoors.  The original radium lume is present on the dial, aged to a striking orange color, and the hands have been professionally color and glow-matched to the dial.

The watch comes equipped on a short-clasp 7077 bracelet, stamped 2nd quarter 1960; the endlinks are generic replacements.  The crystal is an original, Omega-signed crystal.
